Need To Know: Child Safety Seat Recalls 2016

Your children are the most important thing in the world to you, so their safety is paramount. So far in 2016, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a notice of recall for four different brands of child safety seats. If you own any of these car seats, it’s crucial that you contact the manufacturer immediately to make sure your children are safe. Here is a rundown of these recalls and who to contact if you own one of these models:

Britax B-Safe 35

On February 23, 2016, the NTHSA issued a recall for the Britax B-Safe 35 child seats manufactured between October 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015 including models E9LU65M, E9LU65P, E9LU63F, E9LU66R, E9LS63F and EXLU65M, B-Safe 35 Elite child seats, models E9LS55T, E9LS56P, E9LS55U, E9LS66C and E9LS65U, and B-Safe 35 Travel Systems, models S914900, S915400, S915200, S921900 and S01635200. All of these models have defective carrying handles that may cause cracking around the base of the handle. This cracking could lead to the handle breaking while carrying the child. If the handle breaks, the child will fall, putting them at risk for serious injury. The seats still work fine for use in motor vehicles and on strollers, the company just recommends not carrying the safety seat with the handle until you get it repaired. Britax has designed a reinforcement kit that will remedy the issue available free of charge. Contact Britax customer service at 1-800-683-2045 to find out how to receive this kit.

Transitions 3-in-1 Combination Booster Seats

On March 14, 2016, the NHTSA issued a recall for Evenflo Transitions 3-in-1 Combination Booster Seats manufactured between December 18, 2014 and January 29, 2016. The models impacted by this recall include 34411686, 34411695, and 34411029. The recall was issued because central front adjuster button can be reached by the child. This makes it possible for the child to activate the button and loosen the harness. If the harness is loosen, the child would not be secure in the event of an accident and may face serious injury. Evenflo plans to replace the seat pad and child front adjuster assembly free of charge to customer. So contact Evenflo’s customer service at 1-800-233-5921 to find out more.

Graco TurboBooster Seats

On March 18, 206 the NHTSA issued a recall for all Graco TurboBooster seats manufactured between December 22, 2015 and April 5, 2016. This recall affects models 1967886, 1963973, 1963974, 1963975, 1963976, and 1975173. The instructions are missing information that requires seat owners to keep the seat securely belted at all times including when unoccupied. In the event of a crash, an unsecured seat could come loose and injure other passengers. For more information on this recall contact Graco customer service at 1-800-345-4109.

Kiddy USA World Plus

On June 2, 2016, the NHTSA issued a recall for a Kiddy USA World Plus Model 51 100 WP child seats. There is an issue with the front buckle fully latching and securing the child. Since a partially latched button does not guarantee the child is secure, it is very important that you get this fixed. If the latch fails because it is not fully secure, a child may be in danger of a serious injury in the event of an accident. Contact Kiddy customer service at 1-855-92KIDDY to learn more about this recall.
