Jeep Recalling Around 100,000 New SUVs

In late November of 2021, Jeep announced they would be recalling some of their most popular SUV vehicles. The recall is affecting the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, 2022 Wagoner, and 2022 Grand Wagoner, which overall makes up about 100,000 vehicles on the road across the United States today. For those in the Sarasota region with any of these affected vehicles, recall notices are currently being distributed via the postal service.

What Is The Recall All About?

The recall stems from a software issue that may deactivate driver and passenger airbags without notice. Because there is no driver warning, the vehicles may be in use and in motion with no functioning airbags or no way to tell if the airbags are functioning or not. Jeep is not currently aware of any injuries stemming from the airbag issue yet, but there is great potential for injury in any vehicle that has not been inspected and repaired yet.

Jeep is unaware of where the software issue came from, or if this issue may affect other vehicle models at this time.

Repairing The Recalled Vehicles

To make the repair to the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, 2022 Wagoner, and 2022 Grand Wagoner vehicles, Jeep simply needs to install a software patch that updates the software in the affected vehicles. The vehicles do not need a comprehensive inspection and the patch installation only takes a few minutes’ time. Regardless of if the software issue is currently present in the vehicle or not, all of the vehicles can receive the patch to ensure that the software issue does not pop up in the future.

All recall repairs are done free of charge at a local Sarasota area Jeep dealership. Unlike more complicated recalls, having the vehicle repaired does not require a long visit to a Jeep dealership or days spent without your vehicle. Owners of the vehicles can have their repair completed during the average lunch break.

Whether you’ve received a recall notification yet or not, you may call your local Sarasota area Jeep dealership to set up a recall repair appointment.

What If I Don’t Have My Vehicle Repaired?

Lack of airbags can lead to serious injuries should an auto accident occur. Airbags help to prevent serious injuries of the head, neck, and chest, all of which can be devastating and life-changing even in minor accidents. Failing to have your software issue repaired may lead to serious injury and little compensation by way of a personal injury settlement. Because Jeep has issued the recall, and offered free of charge repairs, it is considered the motorist’s choice to risk injury by continuing to drive the vehicle with faulty airbags.

If you were injured by the faulty airbags in your Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wagoner, or Grand Wagoner of the affected years during an auto accident before the recall was announced, you may be entitled to compensation. Talking to a personal injury lawyer who has knowledge and experience of Florida’s auto accident laws should be your next step.
