Halloween Require Special Precautions In 2020

Typically, Halloween in Florida is a fun time for both children and adults alike. Children look forward to trick or treating, while adults have costume parties and social activities to look forward to. Of course, in 2020, things have changed a lot. The COVID-19 pandemic remains an issue here in Florida, and it’s not going away by the time Halloween arrives.

This doesn’t have to mean, however, that Halloween is completely canceled. There are still some things that people can do to celebrate the occasion and still maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Stick To Your Bubble

The “bubble” concept, also known as “circle,” is an agreement between people to socialize only with each other. In this way, social distancing can be ignored, as well as masks provided that everyone honors the agreement and do not regularly interact with others in the same fashion.

If you have created a bubble, and you can stick with it, there’s no reason that your bubble can’t celebrate Halloween together. It’s a smaller gathering, but it still means that people can get together to have some Halloween fun.

Deliver Candy Yourself

For some, Halloween is all about keeping the children happy. If you know where the children in your neighborhood live, instead of hoping that they come to your home for their Halloween candy, you can guarantee that they get some from you by delivering it instead.

This will likely involve a bit of neighborhood coordination, perhaps on social media or through online chats or video chats. In this way, however, you can ensure that every child in the neighborhood gets some Halloween candy by personally delivering it yourself and letting them pick it up at their own doorstep once you’re a safe distance away.

Use A Chute

A novel way for some people to carry on traditional Halloween candy giving duties is to do so in a safe, socially distanced way. One option, for people that still want to engage in the act of giving candy, involves using a chute, pipe, or other hollow structure to slide candy down to a basket for recipients.

The other way to deliver candy is to leave it in a basket at the edge of the property and tell children to reach in and grab an appropriate number, depending on the size of the group. For added safety, hand sanitizers can be included on a nearby table.

Try A “Drive-Thru” Halloween

A relatively new addition to Halloween activities is the “haunted road,” or “drive-thru haunted house.” These are activities for people that are more vehicle bound. In the same way that the drive-in movie theater is receiving a new lease on life for people that want to watch films, these drive-thru versions of haunted house activities still provide some fun and chills for families looking for a thrill without compromising on health or safety.

There’s Always Zoom

Finally, of course, it’s still possible to dress up in a costume and talk to others on Zoom, or another online video chat platform. As with many traditional group activities, online gatherings have arisen in popularity as a way to still see large groups of people but do so in a safe manner.

While it may not have the same intimacy as an actual Halloween party, online meetings are still the safest way to interact if you’re not using a bubble system.

These are just a few ways for people to keep up the Halloween spirit and do so safely. Just remember, however, that if you find yourself injured on someone else’s property, if it’s through an act of negligence, you can always talk to a slip and fall lawyer about seeing whether you have any legal options.
