Halloween Crash Injuring Three on Sandhill Boulevard Spotlights Pedestrian Safety in Charlotte County

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL — A serious hit-and-run crash on Halloween night in Charlotte County left three pedestrians injured along Sandhill Boulevard near Seasons Drive, a busy trick-or-treat route filled with families and children. The incident is a sobering reminder of how quickly celebrations can turn tragic when drivers fail to stay alert in pedestrian areas.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:56 PM on October 31 when a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500 traveling southbound struck a parked vehicle and three pedestrians — an adult, a teen, and a child. All three were transported to area hospitals with injuries.

The driver fled the scene. Following an investigation, FHP Troopers located and arrested a 66-year-old Punta Gorda man at his residence. He faces multiple felony charges for leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Sandhill Boulevard was crowded with trick-or-treaters and families. Witnesses described the aftermath as heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones as they recover.

While justice will follow through the legal process, the larger question remains — how can we prevent tragedies like this from happening again The answer begins with awareness, responsibility, and compassion behind the wheel.

Florida Highway Patrol Arrests Punta Gorda Man After Halloween Hit-and-Run Crash

The swift arrest highlights the commitment of law enforcement to finding and charging those who leave crash scenes. Leaving the scene of a crash that causes injury or death carries severe criminal penalties under Florida law.

At All Injuries Law Firm, justice for the injured means more than holding a driver accountable — it means helping victims rebuild their lives, regain stability, and move forward toward Victory for the Injured.

What Drivers Can Learn from the Charlotte County Halloween Hit-and-Run

Every driver in Florida has a legal and moral duty to stay at the scene of an accident and render aid. Leaving the scene not only breaks the law — it can cost precious moments that save lives.

Staying Safe on Florida Roads When Trick-or-Treaters Are Out

Pedestrian safety becomes even more critical on nights like Halloween, when streets are busier and visibility is lower. Even at slow speeds, a vehicle can cause serious injuries, particularly to children.

Florida continues to rank among the most dangerous states for pedestrians. As our local neighborhoods grow denser, drivers must take extra precautions to protect families enjoying community events.

The Hidden Dangers of Nighttime Pedestrian Crashes in Residential Areas

After sunset, visibility decreases and distractions increase. Excited children often run across streets unexpectedly, and parked cars can block a driver’s view. Limited lighting on residential roads makes it harder to see pedestrians in time to react.

A split second of inattention — checking a text or adjusting the GPS — can have life-changing consequences. Slowing down, staying focused, and anticipating unexpected movement are key to keeping our neighborhoods safe.

Simple Driving Habits That Prevent Pedestrian Accidents

Protecting pedestrians doesn’t require new technology — just attention and care.
Reduce speed in neighborhoods and near parked cars.
Avoid distractions from phones or devices.
Never drive impaired, even after “just one drink.”
Look twice for pedestrians near driveways and crosswalks.
Yield the right-of-way at intersections.

Our attorneys have represented too many families whose lives changed because someone failed to take these simple precautions. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.

What Happens When a Driver Flees the Scene of an Accident in Florida

Under Florida Statute §316.027, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury or death is a felony, carrying harsh penalties. For victims, the damage goes far beyond the law. They face medical bills, missed work, and emotional trauma that can last long after the case is closed.

Even if the responsible driver is not immediately found, there are legal paths to recovery. Our firm has helped injured pedestrians and their families pursue compensation through uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, ensuring they aren’t left without options or support.
