Drivers Watch Out For Obstructions - Animal Causes Deadly Crash On State Road 31

Monday morning A deadly crash involving a Pickup Truck, a sedan, and a tractor-trailer occurred on State Road 31 south of County Road 74. The crash highlights the danger that wild animals can pose Florida drivers when they unexpectedly enter the roadway.

This terrible crash happened as a 36-year-old man from Lehigh Acres was driving a pickup truck northbound on State Road 31 south of the intersection with County Road 74, early Monday morning.

At the same time a 31-year-old man from Orlando, was driving a sedan heading south on State Road 31 with a 55-year-old male passenger from Apopka Florida.

Following some distance behind the sedan, also heading south was a semi tractor-trailer driven by a 20-year-old man from Wauchula Florida.

At 5:40:00 AM, the driver of the pickup truck heading north noticed a hog in the roadway and swerved toward the left to avoid colliding with the large animal. Unfortunately, this brought the pickup truck he was driving into the opposing lane of traffic directly in front of the oncoming sedan, driven by the man from Orlando.

The right front of the pickup truck crashed into the right front of the car at speed. After being hit by the pickup truck the sedan was redirected into the center of the road where it came to a stop, in the path of the approaching semi tractor-trailer.

Unable to stop in time, the front of the tractor-trailer collided with the sedan in the center of the road.

Although the driver of the sedan that was hit first by the pickup truck, then by the semi had been wearing a seat during the crash, he sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident by first responders.

The 55-year-old passenger was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries from the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck suffered only minor injuries despite the severity of the accident, and the driver of the semi was unharmed.

Florida Highway Patrol has stated that the accident is still under investigation.
