Charlotte Drivers Stay Focused On The Highway - Local Woman Dies After Crashing Into Semi On I-75

Interstate 75 is a uniquely dangerous environment for drivers. The combination of high speeds and long periods of monotonous uneventful traveling can result in drivers being caught unawares at the worst possible time.

This is especially true in the Charlotte County / Southern Sarasota County area. While our area has far less traffic to deal with than communities further north, that just makes the unexpected traffic congestion that much more dangerous.

Drivers tend to drive faster once the Interstate is clear of the larger cities, and highway driving is often accompanied by the hypnotic drone of tires rolling on the roadway and the air rushing by which can easily make a motorist drowsy.

However, while we might have less traffic than Sarasota or Bradenton we still have our share, especially during peak commuting hours, and drivers should always stay alert as traffic can come to an unexpected stop at any time on I-75 and at any location.

This combination may have contributed to a local Punta Gorda woman who has tragically died after crashing into the rear of a tractor-trailer, the details of this terrible accident were released in a recent report from the Florida Highway Patrol:

Punta Gorda Woman Dies After Hitting A Tractor Truck On I-75

The report states that the accident took place as a tractor-trailer was stopped in the southbound right lane of Interstate 75, due to other stopped traffic congestion ahead.

A sport utility vehicle driven by an 81-year-old woman from Punta Gorda was traveling south on the right lane of Interstate 75. Ahead of the woman in the SUV was a semi tractor-trailer driven by a 45-year-old man from Ruskin, Florida.

The semi had come to a stop on the highway due to traffic congestion, however for reasons unknown the woman failed to slow for the stopped traffic.

At 5:28 P.M. the front of the sport utility vehicle collided with the rear of the tractor-trailer, critically injuring the woman from Punta Gorda. Both vehicles came to rest in the area of the collision.

FHP later announce that the woman passed away while under medical care on March 21st at an area hope hospice facility.

As auto accident and personal injury attorneys serving southwest Florida for over 30 years, we have seen more than we want to of people being hurt or dying in avoidable car accidents. We urge drivers to stay alert while driving on our local highways! As our area has grown, our roads are getting more crowded and dangerous every year.
