Hit And Run Crash In Ft Myers Highlights The Need For Uninsured Motorist Insurance Coverage

A recent hit-and-run crash in Fort Myers at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Moreno Avenue that resulted in a 19-year-old man from Cape Coral being critically injured, serves as a stark reminder of the importance of uninsured motorist insurance coverage.

In this situation, the at-fault vehicle fled the scene, leaving a critically injured victim to deal with the consequences of the accident.

Under these circumstances, uninsured motorist insurance coverage provides financial protection to the policyholder when involved in an accident with a driver who can not be identified, as in the case of this hit-and-run. This coverage will protect the insured policyholder by covering medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage caused by the at-fault driver. Without this coverage, there may be no way to recover accumulating medical bills and other losses, outside of PIP limits.

If there is difficulty locating the at-fault driver in a hit-and-run accident, or if the other driver does not have insurance, it can be a challenge to pursue compensation through their insurance or legal action. Having uninsured motorist coverage will ensure that the victim of a hit-and-run crash will still have both insurance coverage and legal options for compensation, even if the at-fault driver is unable to be found.

19-Year-Old Cape Coral Man Critically Injured By Hit And Run Driver In Ft Myers

Lee County - Florida Highway Patrol has announced that a 19-year-old man from Cape Coral has sustained critical injuries after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Fort Myers Monday Evening.

According to the report by FHP, the serious crash began Monday evening, as an unidentified driver was traveling south on Broadway in a back or dark-colored sedan, approaching the intersection of Moreno Avenue in Ft Myers.

At the same time, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 19-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida, was traveling north on Broadway, also approaching the intersection with Moreno Avenue.

As the vehicles both reached the intersection with Moreno Avenue from opposite directions, the 19-year-old driver lawfully proceeded into the intersection. At 7:28 P.M., the unidentified driver entered the same intersection from the opposite side and attempted to turn from Broadway Ave, onto Moreno Avenue, and drove directly into the path of the oncoming SUV. The front of the unidentified vehicle collided with the side of the sport utility vehicle.

The force of the crash rotated the sport utility vehicle causing it to collide with a tree with a large amount of force. The impact with the tree caused the left rear tire of the sport utility vehicle to become separated from the automobile and collide with an unoccupied, lawfully parked van.

The driver of the SUV, a 19-year-old man from Cape Coral was critically injured in the crash and was transported to an area hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Immediately after the crash, the unidentified driver fled the scene of the accident in an unknown vehicle. The unidentified car was possibly a blue or black older model sedan with left front damage, black rims, and tinted windows.

FHP has asked that anyone with any information regarding this crash is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Crimestoppers.
